VW thermostat
The VW thermostat is located between the engine and the radiator. It is actually considered as a little temperature sensitive spring valve. It stays closed when the engine warms up, thus preventing the immediate escape of coolant from the engine and circulating through the radiator until appropriate running temperature has been achieved. Once the temperature of the coolant goes up to or between 180 and 195 degrees Fahrenheit (or around 89-91 degrees Celsius), it is then the time that your VW thermostat opens. As the VW thermostat opens, it allows the fluid to go directly into the radiator in order to be cooled. And once that coolant reaches 200 to 218 F or around 93-103 Celsius, this is then the time that the VW thermostat opens all the way.
