VW ignition coil

The VW ignotion coil is a device that can also be referred to as a voltage amplifier since it dramatically increases the voltage of the vehicle in order to create the necessary electrical energy. This basically transforms the 12 volts of battery power into thousands of volts needed by the spark plugs. On modern VW units, the distributors are eliminated and it is replaced with the much smaller VW coil which is controlled electronically. The VW ignotion coil may be remotely mounted or may be placed on top of each spark plug which is called as “coil on plug” or direct ignition system.
